Urinary Tract Infections
D-Mannose Pages

Statistics suggest that one in two women will suffer from infections of the urinary tract during their lifetime.
Bladder infections, or infections of the genitourinary tract, can be recurrent problems and are often caused by the E.coli bacteria.
Further information about this type of infection can be found on our D-Mannose and UTI page.
Other Urinary Tract Infections
Painful Bladder Syndrome
Also referred to as Interstitial Cystitis.
"Interstitial Cystitis is a chronic disorder, diagnosed primarily in women,
characterized by pelvic pain associated with the bladder as well as problems
as urinary frequency and urgency."
National Institutes of Health, USA
The NIH put up $1 million in 2004 to fund further studies of Painful Bladder Syndrome and of the prevalence in the general American population.
A commercial study showed relief from interstitial cystitis by regular dosage of D-Mannose. Urologist Michael Blue said in his summary of findings: "Patients with Painful Bladder Syndrome responded well to D-Mannose (U-Tract) in the absence of a documented UTI. An unexpected benefit for many of these patients was the resolution of pain, frequency, and a decreased sense of voiding pressure."
Urinary Tract Infections Which Are Sexually Transmitted
About 20% of urinary tract infections may be caused by bacteria related to sexual activity (chlamydia and mycoplasma, for example). D-Mannose is NOT effective against these bacteria and medical advice should be taken if D-Mannose is used but does not clear up an infection (this normally means that the infection is not caused by E. coli).
Waterfall D -Mannose ™ powder is NOT a medicine. It is a nutritional supplement which is used by many people for relief from symptoms of urinary tract infections and cystitis. If you are suffering from a chronic infection or disease, please consult your chemist or doctor.
